The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine is looking for highly qualified, motivated and experienced Ukrainian professionals for the position of Driver with its Field Office in Mariupol. The OSCE is committed to achieving a better balance of women and men within the Organization.

Initial duration of appointment is for 12 months, subject to a subsequent OSCE Permanent Council Decision to extend the mandate of the Mission.

Tasks and Responsibilities
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Patrol Group Leader and provide a full range of translation/interpretation services to the Monitoring Team both in office and during patrol. The incumbent in agreement with the supervisor will also provide a full range of translation/interpretation for other OSCE colleagues visiting the Monitoring Team area of responsibility (AoR). The Language Assistant performs the following functions:

  1. Consecutive interpretation from Ukrainian/Russian into English language and vice versa during the meetings with local interlocutors (armed formations, local representatives, local NGOs, local population, media) and other patrolling tasks;
  2. Translation of written texts and documents from Ukrainian/Russian into English language and vice versa;
  3. Keeping minutes of the discussions and reporting summaries from meetings and conferences;
  4. Maintaining and updating contact lists of external interlocutors;
  5. As directed, arranging meetings with local interlocutors via verbal, electronic, and written correspondence;
  6. As directed, summarizing and translating open source local media;
  7. Other duties as assigned.
Necessary Qualifications
  • Ukrainian citizenship or holding permanent resident status in Ukraine;
  • Completed secondary education supplemented by specific studies in languages with specialization in translation and interpretation techniques;
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in written translation and oral interpretation with national or International Organizations;
  • Professional fluency in English, Russian and Ukrainian languages, excellent written and oral communication skills in the mentioned languages;
  • Computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Customer service oriented; ability to work in a confidential environment and maintain a high level of discretion;
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a member of a team, with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds, different gender, and diverse political views, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, as well as the ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities;
  • Cultural sensitivity and judgment;
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and with limited timeframes.

Remuneration Package
Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions is 1029.33 Euro/month. Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna health insurance scheme and the OSCE Provident Fund. Appointments are normally made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale.

The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) is an unarmed, civilian mission, present on the ground 24/7 throughout Ukraine. Its main tasks are to observe and report in an impartial and objective way on the situation in Ukraine; and to facilitate dialogue among all parties to the crisis. The Mission contributes to reducing tensions and to fostering peace, stability and security. The Mission engages with authorities at all levels, as well as civil society, ethnic and religious groups and local communities. The Mission gathers information and reports on the security situation; and establishes and reports facts in response to specific incidents, including those concerning alleged violations of fundamental OSCE principles. The Mission currently foresees around 1,450 mission members spread across 10 Monitoring Teams.
