SocialBoost is the international organization that connects startup community and tech expertise with governments and civil society to solve challenges and create breakthroughs for emerging economies. SocialBoost both builds and trains the community of impact startups and SME’s and develops in-house IT products for effective governance and democracy.
Communications Manager will design and implement strategies that cultivate relationships with media, government, tech, and donor communities, engage target audience and boost brand awareness.
You would be a prime person in the organization to initiate, lead and implement activities related to public communications. This would include but not limited to creating strategies, making up talking points, looking for and organizing public speaking opportunities for top personnel, pitching to journalists, managing social media and copywriting, managing the team, creating presentations, media budget planning etc.
Organizational structure implies two subordinates of the Communications Manager: designer and SMM manager. Additional budget for copywriting might be leveraged on a case-by-case basis. Additional subordinates might be a subject to hire on a project level.
Your responsibilities would be including the following:
(1) Strategy and planning: strategy composition and vision, communication plans and control over their implementation, creating key messages, message boxes and their distribution among the team and SocialBoost spokespersons to maintain tone integrity.
(2) Journalists and pitching: establishing strong relationships with journalists in target media, pitching materials, topics, themes, and interviews with key SocialBoost people, control over their publication.
(3) Managing people: managing subordinates, training and participation in the recruiting processes as needed.
(4) Production and copywriting: writing texts, making up presentations, giving feedback to presentations of others, either with the help of a team or manually, as needed.
(5) Events: pitching participation in strategic events of key SocialBoost people, preparation of team members to take stage or speak in panel discussions, making up talking points for team members and invited guests.
(6) Overall control of communications: controlling implementation of the strategy, monitoring mentions, including mentions in public media, creating communications policies and business processes for the organization, and team training as needed.
(7) Keeping records and reporting: keeping a comprehensive set of records for media contacts, media plans and their implementation and communication policies, timely reporting, and press clipping.
(8) Consulting: ad hoc consulting of the third parties (e.g., program startups) on the matter of communication strategy.
(9) Donor coordination: working with partner/client/donor communications teams on joint activities, approving key messages, aligning communication efforts with client/donor communication teams, controlling correct mentions in partner media materials.
(10) Budgeting: having media budgets in place and control of spending effectiveness over time.
