The Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) has a comprehensive mandate to monitor and report on the human rights situation throughout Ukraine, and to make recommendations to the Government, parties to the conflict, and other relevant actors to address human rights concerns as documented by the Mission. Recommendations outline concrete follow-up actions to address these concerns, prevent violations and mitigate emerging risks. HRMMU monitors, reports, and advocates on the human rights situation through its presence in multiple locations throughout the country and will adapt to the changing situation in terms of the locations of presences. As part of its monitoring mandate HRMMU also monitors remotely, reports and advocates on the human rights situation in areas occupied by or under the military control of the Russian Federation.

Requirements for candidates:

  • 3 years of experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area.
  • Experience working in a conflict or post-conflict setting is desirable.
  • Human rights monitoring and/or reporting experience is desirable.
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in law, human rights, political science, international relations, diplomacy, migration studies or any other relevant disciplines related to human rights from an accredited academic institution. *Master’s degree in the mentioned areas will be considered as a significant advantage.
  • Working knowledge of other UN official languages is highly desirable.
  • Ukrainian, Level: Fluent, Required
  • English, Level: Fluent, Required

  • Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) (equivalent in UAH): USD 1,587

  • Certified sick leave: 30 days annually
  • Uncertified sick leave: 7 days annually
  • Learning leave: 10 days annually
