The Communications Officer, in close cooperation with the Regional Branches and National Committee, will be responsible for producing a wide range of external and internal communications materials. The role is supported by the National Committee Communications Department and Head of Interregional Office in key communications activities, as well as ensuring that their content is available to be amplified across various channels. The role will be responsible for managing and coordinating communications resources on the ground, overseeing quality communications approaches that highlight the humanitarian situation.

Essential Tasks:

  • Drafting and producing content for various audiences and channels on humanitarian situation in the region and Regional Branches/ Interregional Office response in line with the operational priorities.
  • Proactively ensuring strong visibility in local media through proactive media engagement, pitching story ideas about Red Cross and Red Crescent operations, coordinating media events and requests, as well as arranging visits to field operations.
  • Planning and coordinating content production to ensure visibility of the Regional Branches and Interregional Office activities in the country.
  • Supporting visits of Partner National Societies (PNSS), senior representatives, and international media.
  • Supporting the communications team in their communications activities, as well as ensuring that their content is available to be amplified across channels.
  • Support advocacy and reputational risk management through monitoring media and social media, anticipating, identifying and flagging potential reputational issues to help adopt and implement appropriate responses.
  • Drafting and producing a wide range of internal communication materials.
  • Supporting in other communications related tasks.

Requirements:

  • Degree in journalism, communications, marketing or international policies
  • At least 3 years of experience working in communications, with or for the media, social media, fundraising, humanitarian diplomacy or similar
  • Ability to produce a range of compelling communications content from the field (such as news stories, social media content and AV materials)
  • Knowledge of humanitarian affairs
  • Strong spoken and written English including proven experience in drafting compelling communications content for a variety of communications channels
  • Photography, design, or video editing skills as plus
  • Demonstrated understanding and use of social media for communications and advocacy purposes
  • Comfortable working and communicating with

National Societies in a diverse environment as plus

  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure
  • Analytical skills
  • Frequent travel to the field
  • Ukrainian – Full Professional Proficiency

We prefer:

  • Team player with high level of independence
  • Experience in building and maintaining media relations and contacts
  • Experience in emergency response
  • Red Cross and Red Crescent experience

English- Fluently spoken and written.
