Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ukraine is seeking qualified professionals for Support structural change in Ukrainian Coal Regions project to fill the position of:

Graphic designer (full-time, Kyiv)

(internal SAP code: ICT and Digitalisation Specialist)

The Energy and Climate Sector of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Ukraine comprises various projects implemented on behalf of the German government to support Ukraine on its way to transforming into an energy-efficient country. Partners of the projects are Ukrainian ministries on the national level, local communities on the municipal level, and companies in private sector. There are 13 projects in the Cluster portfolio. In their operations, they are supported by a Communications’ Unit to guarantee the proper communication of projects’ goals and results.

We are looking for a full-time Graphic designer with a firm grasp of political realities and sensitivity to support the implementation of communication strategies with the aim to drive change through offline and online channels, to dynamically communicate to target audiences our work, key messages, and achievements. Activities of this position will focus on the project “Support for Structural Change in Ukrainian Coal Regions” which aims to ensure that Ukraine carries out the structural change associated with the coal phase-out in a socially and economically compatible and ecologically sustainable manner, with the involvement of civil society.

This position foreseen Ukraine-wide travels, in case necessary, under a business as usual scenario (i.e. when travel restrictions are lifted).

The Graphic designer is responsible for:

  • Development, design and art-direct various digital and printed communication products for 13 programs in the Energy and Climate Cluster, including layout and graphic design for various communications assets and product packaging e.g. books and booklets, online and printed newsletters, brochures, flyers and leaflets, infographics, charts and graphs, presentations, etc.
  • Creating Power Point presentations, design infographics and optimize fotos for social media channels.
  • Development of creative ideas and concepts for design and typesetting for draft and printable material in formats suitable to the topics, formats and target groups relevant to the Cluster.
  • Organization of photoshoots do the briefing of the photographers.
  • Overseeing, coordinating and managing publishing production processes (assistance in printing house contracting and procurement processes, design and quality assurance before, during and after printing process, liaising with printing houses and providing technical support if needed).
  • Determine requirements and applicable specifications on design style, format and timescales for product illustrations, logos, etc.
  • Reviewing final layouts, suggest improvements where required and prepare drafts for print
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant visibility guidelines of GIZ’s donors and closely coordinate with relevant units within GIZ.
  • Preparing contracts by making a market research and preparation or contractual documents.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • BA or graduate degree in arts, visual communications or in a related field.
  • At least five years of professional experience in a comparable position or in a PR/communications agency or other organisation with a record of published design materials – printed publications and visibility items as well as assets for use online.
  • Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design and art direction, including use of design software such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Dreamweaver, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Proven experience of graphic production – from initial design to published/printed product with knowledge of managing and controlling printing processes (offset and digital) and colour management.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Ukrainian.
  • Proficient use of MS Office Package.
  • Open-minded Team player with excellent intercultural competences.
  • Strong organizational and planning competences.
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently, often under tight deadlines.
  • Experience with donor-funded international development projects and programmes is an asset.

Employment conditions

Full-time position with 40-hours working week. The place of assignment is Kyiv. Starting as soon as possible. Due to administrative issues the contract will be till end of November 2024, with a possibility of prolongation.
