The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 100 countries and has some 18,000 staff worldwide. In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence in Ukraine. Currently, we have over 900 team members working across the county in various professional fields.

About the job

The ICRC Economic Security Department is seeking a highly capable Economic Security (EcoSec) Generalist to join our team in Kyiv. The Economic Security (EcoSec) Generalist is based in Kyiv and works in close collaboration with all offices of ICRC in Ukraine with focus on implementation of projects in integration with other ICRC departments. Specifically, s/he acts as a reference person for EcoSec livelihoods/micro-economic initiative for the beneficiaries of the categories who are Protection Department clients as well as other initiatives.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Design or adjust data-collection tools. Collect data using methods that are in line with the household economy approach. Enter data into and maintain the survey database
  • Interpret market information and use it to determine response options e.g. criteria, assistance value, baselines, etc. and the best modalities to be used
  • Participate in identifying response options based on an analysis of EcoSec core components (food consumption/production, living conditions, income support and capacity-building)
  • Assure proper management and implementation of the Livelihood assistance program for the relevant population categories, directly implement projects to support livelihood/micro-economic initiatives in some regions
  • Ensure the proper methods, plans, implementation, logistics, and reporting are used for assistance
  • Ensure appropriate and timely monitoring of EcoSec projects and reporting of all programmes under his/her responsibility

About you

To be successful as Economic Security Department in the Economic Security Department, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:

  • Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
  • University degree in economics or in another related field
  • Ideally 6 years overall professional experience, including 3–5 years’ experience in a similar field of activity
  • Professional fluency (written and spoken) in English, Ukrainian
  • Computer literate, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience working for a NGO or international organization is an asset
  • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively, under supervision
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
