The project “Utilization and implementation of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine in the field of trade / EU4Business” improves resilience and competitiveness of Ukrainian enterprises, especially in view of the aspired EU accession. It pursues a multi-level approach. At the macro level, trade-related issues in the EU accession process and the implementation of the EU Free Trade Agreement are supported through policy advice and complementary procurement and financing. At the meso level, the business environment for SME is strengthened, especially through advisory services. Industrial associations and business clusters receive special support. In addition, local business support systems are being strengthened on a pilot basis by means of financing. At the enterprise level, the resilience and innovative capacity of SMEs are supported through financing and expert advice.

The SME Advisor is deployed in the Action “EU4Business. SME Recovery Programme” with a focus on improving competitiveness of SME. The expert focusses on the advisory support for SME receiving financial support (grants) from the project. These are 100 small companies with export and growth potential (EUR 10.000 each) and 12 SME with significant export potential (EUR 40.000 each).

Area of responsibilities:

  • Participate in design and implementation of the selection process of SME for grant support in close coordination with the project team and a grant management organisation;
  • Accompany business plan revisions of SME which apply for and implement grant projects, specifically on exports into the EU;
  • (Pre-)Selection of business advisors who support SME in specific sectors or on particular topics linked to exports into the EU and more broadly on increasing innovation, competitiveness and value addition;
  • Quality assurance of business advisory services to SME within the project;
  • Direct technical advice for selected grant projects by SME;
  • Maintain a good flow of communication and information between all involved partners, including the project team, business advisors, the grant management organisation, and SME;
  • Assisting national and international advisers in carrying out their work;
  • Assisting the project with organisational and management issues.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Master‘s degree in business economics or in another area relevant for the position;
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in business advisory for SME to increase competitiveness, innovation and/or exports;
  • Knowledge of and practical experience with SME and trade promotion approaches by international donors;
  • Thorough understanding of EU market requirements;
  • Work experience in an international setting/team;
  • Business fluent command of Ukrainian and English language (verbally and written), knowledge of German would be an advantage;
  • Good self-organisation skills;
  • Ability to effectively liaise with service providers and businesses;
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed;
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Employment conditions

Full-time position with 40-hours working week until April 2025. Place of assignment is Kyiv or other regions of Ukraine. Some travel within Ukraine is possible.
