LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Title of Position: Intern (Transition and Recovery)

Organizational Unit: Transition and Recovery unit

Classification: Internship

Duty Station: Kyiv

Type of Appointment: Full time (40 hours per week), 6 months with possibility of   extension

Context:

The IOM Mission in Ukraine was established in 1996 and since then grew up into one of the largest in the region with 6 field offices and over 400 staff and consultants. The Mission works closely with the Government of Ukraine as well as other partners including civil society, academia, private sector, migrants and diaspora associations, UN agencies, etc., to promote humane, safe and orderly migration which benefits migrants and the society. IOM provides policy advice and support to the Government to advance migration governance in Ukraine, while continuing to deliver direct services to migrants, displaced population and communities. The Transition and Recovery Team focuses on topics of community stabilization, peacebuilding, transitional justice, durable solutions, recovery, and disaster risk reduction and resilience.

Objective of the internship: is to provide students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds exposure to emergency, transition and recovery issues and a first-hand impression of the day-to-day working environment of IOM.

Functions / Key Results Expected:

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Transition and Recovery Associate Programme Officer, and working as a part of the Response, Recovery & Resilience Unit, the Intern will assume the following tasks:

  • Assisting the Transition and Recovery Associate Programme Officer with the oversight of projects, administration, and strategy;
  • Updating trackers for project development, donor engagement, project recruitments, and activity timelines;
  • Drafting infosheets, formatting project documents, and working on thematic outreach materials for donors, partners and government interlocutors;
  • Supporting with organizing meetings and events;
  • Supporting project staff with administrative tasks;
  • Supporting with project development and/or reporting in line with IOM and donor guidelines, including ad hoc research to support project development and learning;
  • Supporting project teams during visits to the field, in accordance and full compliance with IOM/UNDSS security and safety standards and procedures;
  • Assisting with crisis response activities; and
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

  • Up-to-date and maintained trackers
  • Infosheets and similar thematic outreach materials
  • Meeting and/or event agendas, invitations, minutes, and similar
  • Project concept notes and proposals

Desired qualifications:

Education and Experience:

The candidate should:

  1. Be enrolled in the final academic year of Bachelor’s / Master`s level or equivalent;
  2. be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  3. or have graduated with a university degree (not later than 1 year ago). Degree in Economics, International or Development Studies are desirable.
  • Technical mastery of the following software programs: MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Ability to handle routine and repetitive tasks
  • Good organisational skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues within a team from varied cultures and professional backgrounds

Languages: Fluency in English and Ukrainian.
