Translator at Global Communities

Global Communities is implementing the 18-month, Community-Led Emergency Action and Response (CLEAR) program with support from the United States Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (USAID/BHA) to respond to humanitarian needs in Ukraine. The program is designed with the goal of saving lives, reducing suffering, and addressing needs while supporting communities to lead their own response.

CLEAR program focuses on 23 communities Chernivtsi and Chernihiv Oblasts, and work with local CSO partners based on the rapid needs assessment conducted during co-creation. However, the emphasis is on communities outside of major city centers that are underserved by the international response. This marries a needs-based response with our unique ready access to more remote communities and existing partnerships there for an efficient response. Activities are in line with priorities of the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and the Ukrainian government, and all assistance will be aligned with relevant Cluster guidance and Sphere and other standards.

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Ukrainian to English Translator to join our team in Kyiv. As a translator, you will be responsible for translating written and verbal communication from Ukrainian to English and vice versa for our humanitarian program team. You will be tasked with managing multiple translation projects, conducting research, proofreading translated materials, and communicating with team members and stakeholders. The ideal candidate should have native proficiency in Ukrainian, and advanced proficiency in English, and experience as a translator or interpreter. Essential Responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Translate written communication, including reports, documents, and correspondence, from Ukrainian to English and vice versa.
• Interpret verbal communication, including meetings, interviews, and presentations, from Ukrainian to English and vice versa.
• Relay the style and tone of the original language.
• Proofread translated materials to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Manage multiple translation projects and meet deadlines.
• Conduct research to ensure correct terminology and usage in translations.
• Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely translations.
• Any other assignments provided by supervisor.

Position Requirements

Education

A bachelor’s/master’s degree in a relevant field.

Experience and Skills

• A minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
• Computer/word processing and standard software skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Previous experience with a humanitarian or development NGO is an advantage.
• Supporting certification and/or training for official translation is desired but not required.

Language

• Fluency in English and Ukrainian required.
