Offices

The company has two open-space offices in Kyiv and Ivano-Frankivsk. These offices provide spaces for common areas and teamwork, meeting rooms, and relaxation areas where you can sit on a sofa or play tennis. Both offices are fully prepared for various wartime scenarios: equipped with generators, eco-flow and uninterrupted Internet. Each office has rooms that serve as shelters during air raid sirens. The Ivano-Frankivsk office additionally functions as a shelter where workers and their families have lived since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation.

The highlight of the Kyiv office is a cat with a purely IT name Jira. She was named after a tool for IT project management.

Jira has been with Brainstack_ for eight years. She fitted in with the team and even became the heroine of the company sticker pack.

There are also several kitchens in the offices. Every morning fresh and varied breakfasts are delivered for both meat eaters and vegans.

Schedule and other working conditions

Brainstack_ has a flexible schedule. The main thing is to work eight hours a day. The beginning and end of the working day can be changed personally by an employee. The employee can arrange a one-hour break at any time. In the company, everyone is focused on achieving results, not on compliance with rigid frameworks. Of course, the employees need to coordinate their schedules with the team.

Most employees have daily meetings. If the meeting starts at 12, the entire team must come on time. In general, the specialists may start work between 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., but everything depends on the team and the team leader.

However, the specialists in Customer Care Service have their fixed schedules.

They have to work 24/7. Customer Care Specialists work day and night shifts because the company's clients live in different time zones and need round-the-clock support. Accordingly, the Brainstack_ office is open 24/7, so all employees can come and leave the office at any time.

Processes

Brainstack_ has no place for micromanagement. Each team can do everything necessary to achieve results, of course, within the area of their responsibility. If there is a need to discuss or agree on an issue with management, you can justify your decision and make it on your own. Teams work according to OKR methodology, which is used to set goals for the quarter and then track its progress and achievements. A general meeting with the CEO of the company is held every quarter to measure work results and discuss plans for the next period.

The company sets goals for three months because one month is a short period to achieve large-scale and ambitious results. After three months, all employees meet to discuss the results and plan the goals. Once a year, a joint meeting is held where the entire team sums up the results of the year.

There must not be a lot of meetings in the company. It is important to me that our meetings take place when they are needed. I try not to put too much stress on people in my presence. But, of course, I communicate with the teams and know what is happening and where.

Corporate life and charity

Since 2022, the company has changed the format of corporate events. Now most of them are focused on volunteering and helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For example, charity auctions and fairs, which help to raise funds for the needs of the army.

The company also holds quarterly meetings for teams, creative workshops in the company's offices, psychological webinars and sports activities. They believe that such measures are important for the moral and psychological relief of colleagues.

In June 2022, the company created its internal corporate fund 1% of remuneration. The purpose of which is to close the needs of the soldiers who protect our country. This is a voluntary initiative that every employee can join. Every month, with the consent of colleagues, 1% is deducted from their remuneration. The company doubles the collected amount. The fund primarily covers the requests of colleagues who have joined the ranks of the Armed Forces, as well as the needs of relatives and friends of employees.

Training and development of employees

The company has developed a culture of internal growth. In 2021-2023, 77% of managers grew up within Brainstack_. There is a system of compensation for external training of employees who strive to grow professionally, improve their soft and hard skills in order to improve their work results. Each specialist has a corporate limit that can be used during the year for specialized courses, learning foreign languages, attending conferences and meetings, etc.

In 2023, Brainstack_ became a member of the Lviv IT Cluster. The company also actively participates in the IT Expert project. Where universities cooperate with IT companies to create and modernize bachelor's programs in the field of IT. During the year of cooperation, Brainstack_ specialists became mentors for the Lviv National University and Lviv Polytechnic.

Mentoring for  Brainstack_ employees is a springboard for transitioning to managerial positions within the company. Therefore, the company has created an incentive program for mentoring. After the completion of it, participants can receive a monetary reward.

How to get into the team?

Regardless of the position, Brainstack_ looks for candidates with a high level of communication skills, flexibility, and adaptability, ready to take on responsibility.

The selection of candidates takes place in an average of 3-4 stages, depending on the position:

  • interview with a recruiter;
  • interview with the team leader of the hiring team;
  • test task (if the position involves it). Testing is usually undergone by candidates who apply for creative positions or Customer Care Specialists;
  • final interview with HR Director and CEO.

In addition to several interview steps, feedback about the candidate from previous employers is also taken into account. The company has a referral system. Over the past six months, 40% of new employees came to the company on the recommendation of current employees.

It is also worth talking about recruitment in the Customer Care Department, which is constantly growing. Working in the Customer Care Department is a great way to start a career in Brainstack_. Specialists in this department grow fast. They become shift coordinators, team leaders, and mentors for newcomers and move to other departments. During the past two years, 20 specialists from the Customer Care department have made an internal transition to the following positions: Email Marketing Manager, Creative Producer, Project Manager, Product Researcher, Product Manager, Billing Product Manager.

In the Customer Care Department, we are ready to take people without experience and train them according to a specially developed program. Candidates who want to become Customer Care Specialists need a desire to develop in this sphere, a willingness to learn new things, and good English to communicate with customers. 

Those who become a member of the Customer Care Team will undergo an intensive onboarding program. They will learn the technical part of their work, the tools they will work with, and improve their communication skills. The first training lasts two weeks. However, Customer Care Specialists can ask questions to a special manager (if necessary) at any time. They also have other training from time to time, etc.

In general, Brainstack_ welcomes new specialists very warmly. During onboarding, each specialist receives a welcome pack: an eco-bag, a mug, a notebook, a pen, fortune cookies, and a branded sticker pack with the cat Jira.

On the first day of work, the newcomer is greeted with a postcard in the form of a questionnaire. So colleagues can get to know the new member of the Brainstack_ family better.

During the first month, each newcomer is assigned a mentor who helps them adapt to the team. After a successful three-month trial period, the employee receives another gift: a branded toy and a box of nuts.
