What Jooble is working on

Jooble is a job search website that is among the TOP-10 most visited employment websites in the world. The website is used by millions of people in 69 countries every day. It has collected vacancies from more than 140 000 resources. Jooble simplifies job search for candidates because all current offers are available on one website.

In Ukraine, Romania and Hungary Jooble works not only with job boards, but also directly with employers who publish their vacancies. The convenient employer's cabinet, and "Digital Recruiter" based on artificial intelligence, provide effective search and further interaction with candidates.

Another area of work is Jooble Venture Lab. This is a startup studio that is looking for projects and ideas in the field of employment and professional self-realization. Jooble Venture Lab works as a community for everyone responsible for launching new products with Jooble. Every employee can propose an idea. The main requirement is readiness to protect the project and implement it.

“Our task is to help everyone find a dream job, regardless of their place of residence, language, religion, skin colour or beliefs. Our goal is to make a job search easy and fast. There will be self-driving cars on the roads soon. However, the process of finding a job is just as exhausting as it was 20 years ago. We want to make the process of looking for a job as easy as ordering a taxi or food. Our vision is to become Google in the world of job searches.”

Roman Prokofiev,
Сo-founder

The history of Jooble: from a student startup to a global company

Roman Prokofiev and Yevhen Sobakarov, the co-founders of Jooble, got acquainted in the Physics and Technology Lyceum. Then they chose the same faculty at Kyiv Polytechnic University. They also lived in a dormitory together. When Roman Prokofiev and Yevhen Sobakarov were first-year students, they started working as programmers in different companies.

However, their professional paths diverged for a short time. A few years later, Yevhen offered Roman to create a news aggregator together. Roman agreed, but instead of news, they decided to aggregate vacancies. Jooble was created in six months. It is similar to Google but is used as a job search service.

Despite the successful start, the company did not make a profit for the first 1.5–2 years. It could not afford its office or market salaries for employees. However, a period of rapid growth began in 2008 when Jooble began receiving traffic from Google.

Remote-first format of work

Jooble is a remote-first company. It believes that people can create successful projects and achieve great results from anywhere in the world. Jooblers currently work from 25 countries around the world: Ukraine, Spain, Portugal, USA, Germany, Netherlands, Great Britain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Turkey etc. The company opened hubs for better interaction, communication and mutual support between employees.

In hubs, people can work, meet for coffee, share news and just feel the team spirit. Foreign workers and team members who have moved abroad can visit such a space in Warsaw.

Employees in Ukraine can work from offices in Kyiv, Lutsk and Uzhhorod if they wish. The offices are equipped with Starlink and generators, and have supplies of water, food, medicine and blankets.

Some employees of the company, such as managers who cooperate with foreign partners, worked remotely before and after the quarantine and war.

“Everything in our company is based on trust. We adhere to this principle with employees who work remotely. We do not keep track of how many hours the manager spends at work, but we say that it should be an 8-hour day. All employees have a clear algorithm of work and KPI. Every week we have a call, where we discuss important moments, interesting cases and rejoice in the success and achievements of everyone. We organised offline meetings before the quarantine, but we have a lot of employees from all over Ukraine and beyond, so online meetings are still more effective.”

Daria Oleinikova,
Recruiter for Remote Outreach Specialists

Yevheniia Shepel,
Administrative Department Team Lead

There is no micromanagement, no bureaucracy, and no overcontrol over you

According to the company's joint plans for the year, each team develops specific goals for itself in general and for each employee in particular. Once a quarter, a general meeting of all teams is held where the co-founders analyse achievements and failures, adjust goals and plans. If something does not work out, it is okay. Jooble believes: “It is not a problem to make a mistake, it is a problem not to try.”

Despite 16 years on the market, the company is very progressive and open to experimentation. Everyone has equal rights. There is not any total control over the staff. Of course, every team has a Team Lead. However, the Team Leads are like friends and mentors. The employees of all positions and statuses are ready to communicate and share experiences.

"I am very impressed with the values of Jooble. Thanks to the lack of hierarchy here, everyone can improve the processes on their own without waiting for tasks from our directors. We always say: “If you can change something, change it.”

Our Customer Support Centre loves coordinated processes and always strives to optimise them 🙂 Once a week we hold a meeting to discuss our work processes, plan, analyse and consult with each other to achieve even better results. We also meet every day for a 15-minute team call. Such calls help to keep in touch and get to know more about each other."

Viktoriia Hrek,
Customer Support Team Lead

No one keeps track of the employees’ work hours and lunch time. The conclusions are drawn basing on numbers, not a chain of endless agreements. There is no micromanagement yet and initiative is appreciated. If the employees see that they can improve some processes, they suggest their ideas and discuss with others. In Jooble everyone is always ready to change processes and implement new ideas. All employees in Jooble do not hesitate to offer some new ideas and discuss them even with directors – Roman and Yevhen.

Jooble looks at your values first and foremost

"When we set up our company, we did not think much about our values. A lot of people started applying for different positions. We consolidated what was really useful to our company. Step by step, the number of employees exceeded one hundred. Each of our employees did their best to improve and develop our company. We achieved rapid growth and realised that in order to preserve our identity, we need to understand consciously who we are and what defines us. We formed five values of Jooble. It is not so easy to adhere to them in life. They often require a great effort and sometimes even hurt. However, they will help to understand ourselves better and our potential, make life more aware and, ultimately, make sense of it.”

Yevhen Sobakarov,
Сo-founder

5 values of Jooble

1. Owner's thinking. Do not wait for tasks but set them on your own. Take the initiative and suggest improvements.

2. Openness. You are ready to share experiences, give/receive feedback and know how to be in another person's shoes.

3. Development orientation. You are working to be better today than you were yesterday. You improve your professional level and broaden your horizons.

4. Internal locus of control. You know how to take responsibility for yourself. Do not transfer it to others.

5. Enthusiasm. You like what you do, so you are ready to talk for hours about your work, test different approaches and tools.

"In 2021, I decided to change my career path radically. I had a clear idea of what I wanted and what I did not want from my future job. Jooble was quite active in declaring its values in the media. It impressed me a lot. However, I wanted to make sure that the reality coincided with what was being broadcast. At each stage of the hiring process, I listened to myself and my feelings. It was extremely comfortable and easy for me to communicate with each employee. I realised that values in Jooble are the company's internal compass, so I joined the team."

Olena Tkachenko,
Recruitment Coordinator

Jooble and russian invasion

On the first day of russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Jooble announced the termination of the service in russia and belarus. Since then, users from these countries have seen an anti-war banner condemning the crimes of dictatorial regimes on the company's website instead of vacancies. Later, the Jooble team used the domain and page of its website in russia to inform the russian people about the crimes of their soldiers, the devastating effects of sanctions and the real losses of the aggressor country's army until they were blocked by the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (abbreviated as Roskomnadzor).

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the company has transferred about 55 million UAH to various and continues to support the Armed Forces financially. The company's employees claim that it is the best investment for Jooble today. Despite declining revenues, the company continues to pay salaries, hire new people and support employees who are in trouble.

The Jooble team has launched the Jobs for Ukrainian Refugees project to help employ Ukrainian refugees in the EU. Today, the initiative brings together hundreds of European employers and thousands of job seekers.

Career opportunities in Jooble

Start your career with no experience

Jooble is ready to hire students or recent graduates and teach them everything they need. The main criteria are compliance with the values of the Jooble company, proficiency in English (at least B2) and minimum knowledge required for a specific position.

“I joined the Jooble team right after graduating from university as a Junior Specialist in the Scripters Department. For the first half of the year, I worked and studied. Eventually, I gained some experience. The work became monotonous. There were no new tasks, so I started taking on new responsibilities. I have always been willing to perform non-standard tasks. I remember the time when our Team Lead offered to collect vacancies from newspapers and magazines and post them on our website. I immediately ran to the kiosk, bought a lot of newspapers and began to think about how to implement this task. Sometime later, the company began to transform. I was offered to try myself as a Team Manager. And for this moment I have been coordinating the work of the Aggregation&Monitoring team for over 2 years.”

Ivan Andriiash,
Aggregation&Monitoring Team Lead

Jooble also offers some technical positions for beginners. For example, the company recently closed a vacancy for AMT Specialist, for which there was enough basic knowledge about SQL, HTML. And also Junior Python Developer, but candidates for this position needed to have one year of work experience.

Jooble also employs experienced professionals: 50% of the vacancies that the company closed last year were for Juniors, and the remaining 50% – for Middle and Senior Specialists.

Rapid career growth is a common thing, not an exception

The company withstand global crises and not only does not reduce staff, but also hires new employees at this time. The Jooble team is growing very fast. 39 people were hired in the first quarter of 2023. Therefore, it is quite possible to grow from a beginner to a professional in 1–1.5 years.

"I believe that the right position comes to us at the right time. I have always been interested in participating in various organizational processes of the team, because I believe that interaction between participants should always be active. Therefore, after working in the company for 1.5 years, I felt confident and wanted to create and develop my own team. That's when the team lead position opened up. I have always been inspired by the opportunity to gather a team of like-minded people with similar values and beliefs. And now my biggest motivation is to see how we grow together and learn from each other."

Anastasia Abarbarchuk,
Team Lead of Outreach Specialists

Do you want to change your career path? No problem!

“I've been working at Jooble for almost eight years now, and during that time I've moved through four roles within the company. At first I was an outreach specialist, and in a few years I bacame a team leader. And a few years later, I headed the department of remote outreach. Long before the pandemic, when remote work was not mainstream, we started hiring people in our department from all over the world. This project gained momentum very quickly and grew to 200 remote employees in just over a year. Now I work as a product manager, I am very driven by the team and the results of our joint work. Jooble is a company with unique people who constantly inspire new ideas and development. There are no stoppers here, all you need is a desire. Here you really feel the support of the company and colleagues in everything.”

Anna Muntiyan,

Employees choose courses and attend them on their own initiative. The Learning&Development Department supports such initiatives and offers compensation of 50% and 100% depending on whether the acquired skills will be required to perform a task.”

Maryna Halushko,
Learning&Development Manager

It is cool to work in a company where a large number of people have worked in the team for many years.

"I have worked in Jooble for over 15 years. Jooble is like my home. I spend most of my time there. I do not want to quit this job. Jooble always sets ambitious goals and achieves them. The team is also really cool there.

I find a lot of opportunities for self-development. There are no positions with tightly regulated responsibilities. Thanks to the opportunity to change positions, I became an expert in database development and started conducting interviews. I also became a scrum master and a product owner.
