Position Title : Project Assistant
Duty Station : Luhansk, Ukraine
Classification : General Service Staff, Grade G4
Type of Appointment : Special short-term, six months with possibility of extension
Estimated Start Date : As soon as possible
Closing Date : 18 February 2020

IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:  

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and Emergency Coordination Officer, and the direct supervision of the National Emergency and Stabilization Field Officer, the successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of IOM Ukraine’s Emergency and Stabilization efforts carried out by the Luhansk field office. 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in the overall implementation of Emergency and Stabilization efforts in Luhansk Oblast, including, inter alia, Shelter, Non-food items, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene efforts.
  2. Support field work, including related to distribution and monitoring.
  3. Aid in contracting partners and assist in the procurement of goods and services.
  4. Support regular reporting (IOM internal, IOM external, UN-related, including situation reporting), correspondence, publication and presentation materials.
  5. Assist in the logistics and organization of Emergency and Stabilization, as well as humanitarian and development-related activities and events (meetings, presentations, discussions, visits, etc.).
  6. Provide informal interpretation and written translation (English/Ukrainian, Russian as well) when necessary.
  7. Draft official and unofficial correspondence in English and Ukrainian (Russian if necessary).
  8. Take notes at relevant programme events.
  9. Render support to programme visibility as necessary.
  10. Undertake duty travel within Ukraine on an as-needed basis.
  11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience 

Education

  • High school diploma/certificate with four years of relevant work experience;

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least two years of responsible work experience (degree in public administration, human rights, political science, economics, or international relations/development would be an advantage).
Experience
  • Experience of working in a UN agency or International NGO is an asset;
  • Experience of working with governmental authorities and NGOs;
  • Experience of field work;
  • Experience of general administration;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issue of emergency and recovery response in Ukraine is an asset;
  • Advanced PC knowledge

Languages

Fluency in English, Ukrainian and Russian is required.
