Fast and innovative solutions in a conservative industry

fint8 offers outsourced CFO services. The company's specialists dive deep into the business and handle all financial aspects. fint8 works only with private enterprises, helping them to grow and create a new economy. Among fint8’s clients are companies that do business in more than two countries, with an annual turnover ranging from $2 to $60 million, and employing more than 23 people.

fint8 provides the following services:

  • Diagnostics of financial processes. It includes analyzing problems, refining management accounting systems, changing processes, and hiring personnel. The company also develops a plan for implementation of changes in the finance department to ensure effective operation.
  • Transformation of financial processes. It is a point solution to one or more issues of the financial department. Specifically, services include setting up management accounting, reporting and financial planning, development and implementation of interactive analytical reports in Power BI, development and implementation of international tax and legal structures, recruitment of CFO (from creating a vacancy to onboarding), etc.
  • Financial controlling. It is a subscription to a specific set of company services. For example, monthly preparation and analysis of management reports, updating the financial plan for the year, assistance of outsourced financial team with audits, hiring and dismissal of employees, implementation and adaptation of accounting systems, etc.

How fint8 was created

The company was founded by two ambitious entrepreneurs with extensive experience in finance, Anton Shulyk and Andrii Tertyshnyk. In 2018, Andrii attended an ACCA course at EY Academy of Business where Anton was a lecturer. After getting to know each other, they decided they had to try to work together. They started with outsourced financial consulting: Anton was looking for clients while Andrii was processing their requests.

They worked together for about a year until they realized the need to expand their team. In 2020, they hired their first employee, registered as a sole proprietorship, and started working with several regular clients. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, they not only managed to stay afloat, but also expanded the company.

However, until 2022, each of the co-founders had a primary job, so fint8 projects were an additional business. The outbreak of a full-scale war helped them realize that fint8 is a full-fledged business that requires 100% involvement and attention. Even in the most difficult period — in the spring of 2022, none of fint8 clients refused to cooperate with the company, thus, the team was able to continue working and developing.

Today, fint8 concurrently manages up to 20 clients, and the portfolio includes about 40 successfully completed projects.

At fint8, I work with different businesses and areas of entrepreneurship and have the opportunity to perform diverse tasks and foster personal development. There are no  monotonous projects, and there is no sense of routine. Each of us enjoys freedom in our work processes, and everyone's opinion is duly considered. At the same time, we have a strong support from the head team at all stages of work, including personal matters, if necessary.

I'm grateful to fint8 for their support and encouragement to learn and develop. Over the two years of cooperation, I have improved my English proficiency by three levels and have completed project management and time management courses. I have also attended numerous professional trainings, workshops, webinars, etc. What I appreciate most is an opportunity to grow as an expert just by doing my job because every project presents a new challenge.

Finance Director

Team values and ethical criteria for selecting clients

fint8 employees share the following values that underpin the way they interact with each other and cooperate with clients:

  • trust between colleagues and partners;
  • responsibility to customers;
  • reliability in the task performance;
  • quality service for all customers.

The company values critical thinking, an entrepreneurial attitude, and self-development in its employees. fint8 specialists have freedom in their work, yet they always remember their responsibility for their actions. At the same time, fint8 employees have room for error, which is not so common in the finance environment.

Based on its values, fint8 has a taboo on cooperation with companies which:

  • promote violence, hatred, or contradict the ethical principles of honesty and trustworthiness in a way that causes harm to people;
  • are related to alcohol, tobacco, financial and pyramid schemes, pornography, and illegal gambling;
  • build rapport with politicians, oligarchs, or other people who gained their wealth in illegal ways or dealt with money laundering;
  • do not create value and represent a fictitious scheme;
  • have representative offices or do business with the russian federation, belarus, or Iran.

You can work from anywhere in the world

The company operates fully in a remote format. Apart from Ukraine, fint8 employees also live in Hungary, Germany, Spain, and the UK. It is not as typical for the financial sector as it is for IT companies or creative teams, so employees consider full remote to be one of the biggest advantages of the company.

Each specialist is required to work 140 hours a month. 120 hours are spent on projects, and another 20 hours — on internal tasks: team calls, sharing experience with colleagues, solving organizational issues, etc.

To ensure proper workload distribution and meet deadlines, fint8 specialists use ClickUp. In this program they plan tasks and track time required for their completion, At the end of each week, they review the results of all projects, analyze achievements and mistakes, and, if necessary, adjust the plan and redistribute tasks.

Each employee is entitled to 20 days (excluding weekends) of paid vacation per year, which must be used within the year. This is more than the 24 calendar days provided for by the Labor Code. The company does not offer a financial equivalent of vacation days, as it believes that quality rest is a fundamental need and a guarantee of productive work.

I like that fint8 has a young team and a modern view of doing business and solving problems. I think that another significant advantage of the company is that all employees can work online from anywhere in the world.

The fint8 team consists of experienced and competent people who respect personal boundaries and care about healthy communication. We all work remotely, but sometimes we meet at off-site and informal meetings.

The candidate selection process was efficient and comfortable. I had two interviews with the company's executives within a week. The interviews were fruitful and substantive. After receiving a job offer, I started my journey at fint8.

Transparent team structure and career development

A team of several people works on each fint8 project.

  • Finance director manages projects and the team, advises clients on financial issues, and presents reports. He/she is responsible to the client for the quality of services provided. Depending on the complexity, one Finance Director can manage three to five projects at the same time. If the team meets the budget and the deadline, Finance Director receives a project profit commission in addition to their salary.
  • Finance Manager cooperates with Finance Director, helps to prepare financial reports, maintains communication with the client's employees, and agrees with the Finance Director on the additional project work and the time for their implementation.
  • Junior Finance Manager prepares data for reports and provides necessary assistance to others. His/her main tools are Excel/Google Sheets, ChatGPT, and Google.

One can start their career at fint8 as a Junior Finance Manager and progress to roles of a Finance Manager or Finance Director. On average, the transition from one position to another takes two years. Currently, fint8 is developing skills maps, which will help specialists understand, which skills and knowledge they need to improve to reach the desired level of career development and take a higher position. In the future, the company plans to introduce the positions of Trainee and Business Partner and establish a clear career ladder, following the example of the Big Four companies.

One of the advantages of working at fint8 is the opportunity to engage in diverse projects with businesses from various industries, allowing for rapid development of broad financial expertise.

Training and professional development

Colleagues support each other in their development and are always ready to help when someone has difficulties with a project. For this purpose, the company has a series of meetings where specialists exchange experience, analyze complex cases, and share advice.

  • Every Monday, the team holds a general meeting to discuss current projects, news, successes, and plans.
  • The mastermind meetings for Finance Directors are held every two weeks. There is also a separate chat room where they can discuss business issues together.
  • Every week, each Finance Director has a one-to-one meeting with the Head of Delivery where they report on project progress and consult on outstanding issues.

fint8 has an internal library where colleagues can find books for professional development, recordings of seminars and courses, guidelines for working with financial instruments, etc. Any team member can use these materials to improve their skills or add their learning resources to the database.

In addition, the company arranges English language training sessions for its employees. Twice a week, each specialist attends group classes according to their level of knowledge.

The primary requirement is a candidate’s willingness to develop within the field of finance for businesses. fint8 does not recruit specialists who have previously worked in companies from industries that conflict with their values. In addition to all the necessary hard skills, a candidate must possess strong communication skills, be capable of negotiating with clients and articulate their opinions effectively. At fint8, the approach of positioning oneself solely as a number-cruncher with minimal interaction with people is not acceptable.

Candidate selection process:

All these stages are necessary to ensure that at the time of the offer, both the company and the candidate are 100% sure that they are suitable for each other and are ready for efficient and long-term cooperation.

Onboarding

The company cares about the smooth and comfortable adaptation of newcomers, so on the first day of work, a specialist receives an onboarding plan for a day, a week, and two months.

On the first day, a new employee meets the team at an online meeting, gets access to Slack, ClickUp, Timebase, and fills out their profiles there, gets acquainted with internal policies, and has a call with their buddy.

During the first week of work, the newcomer:

  • fills out a questionnaire to introduce themselves to colleagues;
  • learns how to work in Slack, ClickUp, Timebase;
  • learns internal policies and documents;
  • familiarizes themselves with sample reports, templates, and other necessary materials from the knowledge base;
  • performs tasks assigned by the buddy;
  • passes the final check on the quality of onboarding tasks;
  • joins the work on projects.

The probationary period at fint8 lasts three months. At the end of this period, the employee has a call with the Head of Delivery to discuss his/her work and exchange feedback. If both the company and the specialist are satisfied with the cooperation, they create a personal development plan and set goals to be achieved by the next evaluation process.

The first days at the company can be called introductory. There is a meeting with the team, studying the company's internal policies, reviewing the tools that will be used for team communication, and access to the internal library containing a lot of books, courses, reporting templates, etc. All Junior Finance Managers have a buddy who familiarizes them with the details of the projects they will be working on. The workload increases gradually to allow newcomers adjust to the pace.

Our team is great, cheerful, and professional. Everyone is ready to help if needed and share their expertise. The experience of working on projects contributes to my professional development the most. I have the opportunity to see how businesses work in different areas, and what solutions and approaches can be applied in certain situations. I also take English courses. Later on, I will identify my growth areas and plan my future development.
