This role is a core member of the Design team, and partners closely with our Product, Marketing, and Content groups. At Surprise, we take pride in our craft and agonize over high-quality design with a user-friendly (and delightful) experience for everyone.

As part of the interview process, we ask all candidates to submit a portfolio of relevant design work for our team to review. It is important to note that Surprise is a mobile-first company, and we are looking for full-stack product designers with extensive experience in visual design, who are able to transform rough wireframes into hi-fi, pixel-perfect mobile screens/experiences. The most competitive portfolios will showcase these skills.

What will you be doing?

• Working on the user experience across multiple Surprise products, on mobile and web;
• Working collaboratively with other designers to develop and expand product design patterns;
• Helping engineers and product managers define both the long-term strategy and the short-term tactics for our products;
• Sometimes working on very broadly defined, loose concepts, and sometimes on narrowly defined, tactical features;
• Working in a highly energetic fashion with the design and product teams;
• Considering all parts when crafting the experience—from copy to animation to business impact.

What are we looking for?

• An online portfolio with mobile app or web design samples;
• Design experience in a consumer application, product, or software role;
• A desire to strive for excellence in your work until all details are attended to;
• The ability to explain your work, process, and decisions and seek feedback to help you produce your best work;
• Upper-Intermediate English or higher (B2+).

What skills will come in handy?

• Proven experience working at a high-paced tech start-up;
• Experience with illustration or animation (or both).
