Chemonics International, a global consulting and international development firm, seeks a Medium and Large Business Competitiveness Specialist, long-term position, for the USAID-funded Competitive Economy Program (CEP). CEP is a seven-year, $170M program, which promotes a strong, diverse, and open economy by enhancing the business environment for Ukrainian enterprises, improving the competitiveness of emerging and high-growth industries and their firms in international markets and equipping the Ukrainian workforce with skills necessary for reconstruction and rebuilding the economy.
The Medium and Large Business Competitiveness Specialist (Specialist) will be responsible for developing competitiveness of Ukrainian companies, primarily medium and large ones, via a number of business support instruments, including grants to companies, support to companies via competitiveness agreements (to procure critical equipment and business growth services for companies), as well as structuring other companies’ support initiatives to increase companies’ domestic and international sales, create significant number of new jobs as well as stimulation of own companies’ investments, etc.
The Specialist will be a member of the Future Industries Team, which is primarily focused on technology, innovative manufacturing, hardware & engineering as well as creative industries development (including marketing, etc.), therefore is expected to primarily deal with companies and initiatives in these industries, however tasks and assignments may include other industries and/or activities, as described further.
Specific tasks and responsibilities for this position include:
Generate or support generation of a pipeline of companies with exports/sales growth and jobs creation potential, to be considered by CEP as candidates for support.
Identify key companies’ opportunities to increase sales/exports and create new jobs in cooperation with CEP team as well as business support organizations (associations, clusters, think tanks, etc.).
Identify key business growth services, which can stimulate increase of sales/exports and create new jobs, as well as equipment, critical for sales/exports growth and new jobs.
Contribute to existing initiatives aimed to support companies’ competitiveness growth via delivery of critical business services, including, related to delivery of marketing, export consulting and other services
Provide support for companies in increasing sales and creating new jobs through grants implementation as well as other direct gods’ and services’ delivering.
Provide support for companies in increasing sales and creating new jobs through development and implementation of competitiveness agreements with businesses to pursue direct procurement of goods and services for companies, which have significant growth and business scaling potential.
Participate as an observer and/or a member of the grants evaluation committee, act as tech lead in grant pre-award, implementation and post-closure stages, demonstrating sectoral and business knowledge and high code of conduct when evaluating, supervising and finalizing respective initiatives.
Liaison with national, regional and sectoral stakeholders to identify industry-wide, national or regional initiatives (which could be implemented with academia, business, authorities and other stakeholders) to stimulate workforce development, resulting in new jobs and recruited staff. Lead development of such initiatives, liaison with CEP colleague to evaluate feasibility and guide it through further procedural stages up to implementation.
Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Party, Chief of Party, Future Industries Team Lead.
The required and/or preferred qualifications for the Medium and Large Business Competitiveness Specialist position are:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, economics, law or related field required. Master’s degree is preferred.
Minimum five years of progressively responsible related experience in development, sales and marketing and business management and or economics, law, professional services.
Familiarity with USAID-funded projects or prior international donor experience is a plus.
Strong project management and/or product management, as well as organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines and work in fast-paced environments required.
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
Proficiency in English and Ukrainian required
