Indicative LOE/Time Frame:  Full-Time, or Part-Time.  July 2024 – March 2026
For contracting (after the job offer is made), the selected candidate is expected to be registered as a Private Entrepreneur of the 3d group (consultancy services)
Citizenship: Ukrainian
Language Requirements: Fluency in Ukrainian/Russian, English (written and spoken)

Project Description:
Alinea International has been contracted by the UK Government to establish a strategic communications support platform. This platform will support Ukraine government communications activities and priorities by assembling top talent in a format designed to meet the increased public demand for transparent communication caused by Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine. 

About the Work:
The role of the Interpreter and Translator is to provide high-quality interpretation and translation services for our team in Ukraine. This position involves working closely with team members and external partners to ensure effective communication across English, Ukrainian languages. The role also involves liaising with team leaders and coordinators, processing data from partner institutes and government organisations, and administrative and people management experience in both the commercial and non-profit sectors.

The Role:
The expert will ensure all activities are delivered on time and are appropriately documented. S/he is expected to work closely with the Deputy Team Lead in Ukraine and participate in relevant project meetings. The broad scope under this position includes the following components:

• Provide consecutive interpretation between English, Ukrainian, and Russian for meetings, interviews, and events online and offline
• Accurately convey both the content and tone of speakers’ messages in real-time
• Translate written documents, ensuring fidelity to the original text and appropriate style
• Prepare for interpretation assignments by studying relevant terminology and background information
• Maintain and continuously improve language skills and subject matter expertise
• Use note-taking techniques to accurately relay extended passages during consecutive interpretation
• Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information encountered during interpretation and translation tasks
• Provide cultural context and explanations when necessary to facilitate understanding
• Proofread and edit translations for accuracy, grammar, and style
• Develop and maintain glossaries of specialized terms in relevant fields

Required Qualifications:

• The expert is expected to meet the following requirements related to her/his qualification, skills, and professional experience:
• Proven experience as a consecutive interpreter and translator, with a focus on English, Ukrainian, and Russian
• Bachelor’s degree in Interpretation, Translation, Linguistics, or a related field; additional certification is a plus
• Excellent listening skills and ability to quickly and accurately relay information
• Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity
• Advanced proficiency in note-taking techniques for consecutive interpretation
• Familiarity with terminology in relevant fields (e.g., international development, strategic communication)
• Experience working in fast-paced environments with potentially sensitive or complex subject matter
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience interpreting for government institutions, international organizations or in diplomatic settings
• Familiarity with computer-assisted translation tools
• Knowledge of current events and socio-political context in Ukraine
