Job Title: Protection Officer
Reporting to: Programs Coordinator
Contract Type: Full time (37,5 hours per week)
Length: 12 month contract with possibility of extension (subject to funds confirmation)
Principal Location: Kyiv, Ukraine

Part 1:  Role Purpose:

Street Child is seeking a bilingual individual, who is fluent in both Ukrainian and English, and wants to be involved in supporting the response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine caused by Russian military assault. This is a fantastic opportunity to become a member of a new and growing team that manages Street Child’s education-in-emergencies programme in Ukraine. The person will be responsible for providing specific support on protection programme activities. The Protection Officer should has significant experience and expertise in designing and delivering training, and in designing and development training and coaching resources and routines. Street Child is looking for a person with experience and knowledge in working in humanitarian context with a strong emphasize on protection intervention. The role will also require close collaboration with local implementing partners and Street Child project team.

We are looking for candidates with a ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to support wherever needed. This is a demanding role and is suited to individuals who enjoy being busy and involved in a variety of tasks. Part 2:  Key Responsibilities:

1) Project Delivery and management (50%)

  • Develop and coordinate project activities in collaboration with the Project Manager and in liaison with implementing partners, government and child protection stakeholders ensuring project implementation
  • Contribute to the planning, organization, coordination and control of project tasks by ensuring compliance with Street Child procedures and donor requirements
  • Monitor day-to-day activities in programmes to ensure best practice is adhered to in provision of psychosocial support for children, and case management of children at risk
  • Coordinate with the Case workers to ensure a rapid, proportionate and effective response
  • Identify gaps and areas of improvement of the project and provide appropriate actions
  • Provide data analysis for review and reporting purposes
  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities of the project evaluation

2) Partnerships & Capacity Building (40%)

  • Closely collaborate with the partners’ social workers to ensure regular follow up of case files of children at risk
  • Cooperate with partners to ensure the project is implemented timely and its deliverables of the outmost quality.
  • Provide technical and administrative support throughout all stages of the project
  • Support Project Manager in assessing partner training and capacity building needs
  • Organise and conduct training sessions for partners in areas of improvement of the project. Contribute to developing of training materials
  • Support information sharing among the project actors

3) Representation (10%)

  • Responsible for coordination and liaising between Street Child and local partners, other agencies, local government, cluster partners in regards to Street Child’s Child Protection programme
  • Represent Street Child at various stakeholder meetings, including cluster meetings, working group meetings
  • Support Project Manager in presenting program deliverables to the donors and humanitarian stakeholders

4) Other

  • A strong commitment to Street Childs vision, mission, and values
  • Adhere to all Street Child’s policies and procedures
  • Able to represent Street Child appropriately both internally and externally
  • Carry out all reasonable requests that are within the broad remit of the role

 

Part 3:  Person Specification      

Attributes

 

Essential Beneficia
Experience and Knowledge • Previous working experience in humanitarian field, working in complex and volatile contexts

• At least one year of experience working in a project aims to support child well-being including Child Protection, Mental Health, or Psychosocial Support with a similar level of responsibilities

• Experience working with Office tools

• Experience working in case management project

• Working knowledge of humanitarian standards and principles

• Demonstrable experience working closely with national/local NGOs in Ukraine

Skills and Abilities • Knowledge of project control and implementation

• Proven capabilities in working in team, excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills

• Excellent organisational abilities

• Experience on presenting information to a group of people, delivering presentations or training

• Demonstrated experience to work under pressure and tight deadlines

•  Excellent written and spoken Ukrainian language skills

• Able and willing to travel, sometimes in insecure environments

• Ability to set tasks, and priorities and achieve it in time

• A ‘can-do’ attitude

• Proficiency in time management

• Excellent written and spoken English and Russian language skills

Education / Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher in Education, Children Rights, Human rights, Child Protection, or related field
