Open to Internal and External Candidates

Position Title: Senior Graphic Designer

Duty Station: Kyiv, Ukraine

Classification: General Service Staff, Grade G6

Type of Appointment: Special Short-Term, Six months with possibility of extension

Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible

Closing Date: 5 April 2023

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Emergency Coordinator for the Ukraine Crisis and the direct supervision of the Programme Support Officer (Partnerships and Programme Development) in the Programme Support Unit (PSU) for the Ukraine Crisis) the successful candidate will support the Unit’s  efforts to deliver graphic design work.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Develop the graphic guidelines for the PSU unit in accordance with IOM and style manuals, as well as Project and donor guidelines.
  2. Design and develop layouts for all research studies, infographics, websites/online systems for emergency information products to support the impact of strategic communication of humanitarian needs in coordination with the PD/R, IM and MEAL Units.
  3. Create one-off designs for online and print publications, including PowerPoint and Prezi presentations, infographics, maps, exhibition stands and other promotional materials.
  4. Act as a focal point for production and editing of documents, videos, interviews, and other audio-visual materials through applications such as Adobe Premiere, while maintaining and verifying cultural sensitivities, human rights approach and a gender focus in all communications materials.
  5. Perform technical trainings to strengthen graphic design skills for IOM and counterparts´ staff in basic concepts of graphic design, use and combination of colors, development of infographics, as well as graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Additionally, support the organization of project-related meetings and workshops.
  6. Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; create and maintain an accessible library of reusable packages/materials for use by missions and projects.
  7. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Web-Development, Graphic Design  or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least four years of relevant professional experience; or
  • High School Degree/Certificate with six years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Pro-active team player who can work with web developers, web designers and production colleagues under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to do multi-task, can work independently and think strategically.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and an eye for detail.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design.
  • Ability to create and produce graphic materials using a range of media, methods, techniques, and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to identify and interpret graphic and web design needs and develop creative and responsive design concepts.
  • Ability to develop complex, integrated design, printing, and/or reproduction specifications.
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.
  • Ability to compile and prepare graphic production budgets, schedules, and workplans.
  • Knowledge of available external graphic design, printing, publication, and associated resources.
  • Knowledge of graphic layout and photographic requirements and procedures.
  • Relevant academic and practical experience in the field of graphic and web design.
  • In-depth knowledge of and expertise in a wide range of Adobe Creative Suite software applications including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver
  • Proven informational materials drafting, and reporting skills, confident user of the Microsoft Office Suite and other related software Graphic design and web-design skills;
  • Specific and extensive knowledge in UI/UX web design, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP or any other relevant language.

Languages

Fluency in English, Ukrainian and Russian is required.
