Teacher of English (Hourly Paid) at British Council in Ukraine

The British Council in Ukraine, a leading international cultural organization, is recruiting an Hourly Paid Teacher of English.

The purpose of this role: To deliver quality English language teaching to a diverse audience of young learners and adults as part of the British Council Ukraine teaching team on a freelance basis.

• supporting the teaching centre’s activities and British Council plans
• enhancing British Council’s reputation as a world authority in ELT continuing professional development and sharing of best practices

Main Accountabilities:

• Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning preferences
• Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy
• Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team
• Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards
• Actively engage in professional development to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices
• Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK
• Support local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service
• Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:

 Role Specific Qualifications

Minimum / essential

• Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL (global minimum standard)
• High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of the 4 sections of the academic module, or CPE Pass or above.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent

Desirable

• Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. DELTA
• YL Ext. to CELTA or recognised equivalent (e.g. IHCYL or TYLEC)

 Role Specific Knowledge & Experience for the advertised vacancy:

Minimum / essential

CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience

• Young learners aged 6 to 7 (100+ hours)
• Young learners aged 8 to 10 (200+ hours)
• Young learners aged 11 to 17 (200+ hours)
• Adults General English (200+ hours)

 Desirable

• IELTS Preparation
• ZNO Preparation
• Early Years aged 5-6 (or younger) (100+ hours)

 Role Specific Skills

 Effective communication and engagement with children and their families.

• Ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children.
• Knowledge and understanding of positive disciplinary methods.

Threshold requirements:

• Freelance teachers must have Group III Private Entrepreneur status.
• Criminal record check (Child Protection check), medical certificate, references check
• Opportunities for freelance teaching work will exist primarily on weekends and late evenings.
• You will be expected to teach online or off-site, at our partner premises as well as in the main Teaching Centre.
