FOR THE CONSULTANCY CONTRACT OF:  Focal Points for Cross-Cutting Thematic (Consultant)

  1. Duty Station of the Consultancy: Dnipro and Mykolaiv (2 positions)
  2. Duration of Consultancy: 6 months, with possibility of extension pending on funds availability and satisfactory job performance

Category A

Under overall supervision of Chief of Mision and direct supervision of the Age and  in coordination and with Disability Inclusion specialist,guidance of the relevant specialists in the mission, focal points will play a key role in supporting field themes to make sure that protection, gender, age, disability, MHPSS, localization and AAP are all considered in the implementation of the different activities.

The  Focal Points for Cross-Cutting Thematics (Consultant) will be expected to support in the planning and delivery of capacity building sessions as well as delivering said sessions. Additionally, the focal points will support field teams by providing basic technical advice or by raising the key issues with the relevant specialists.

  1. Project Context and Scope:

The key objective of the position is to strengthen the capacities of the field staff and respond to awareness raising needs of field activities (with IPs, coordination mechanisms or other stakeholders). The appointment of the focal points addresses the need to take effective, concrete, multidisciplinary and integrated approach that takes into account the key cross-cutting themes that need to be mainstreamed primarily in field programs. Overall, the work envisaged by the postholder aims to improve the efficiency and the relevance of our actions and thus, more broadly, the quality of the overall response.

Category A Consultants: Tasks to be performed under this contract

  1. Support the planning, development and delivery of awareness raising sessions on cross cutting thematics for field staff, partners, coordination mechanisms or other relevant stakeholders; as well as in conducting follow up evaluations to assess applicability and impact of sessions delivered.
  2. Support assessments to identify gaps and training needs.
  3. Establish relationship with civil society organizations and organize discussions, meetings and consultations as relevant, with CSOs, including OPD’s and feminist organizations, as well as informal groups of women, youth and persons with disabilities.
  4. Establish communication and possible collaboration with other relevant stakeholders (e.g. NGOs, Social media influencers, local authorities, media companies, etc) as pertinent to the specific context.
  5. Liase with the relevant specialists for revision of tools and activities as requested by field teams
  6. Support the drafting of case studies to capture best practices; support the generation of knowledge and evidence on cross-cutting themes in humanitarian action
  7. Contribute to develop key messages and talking points on cross cutting themes for meetings, webinars and other events as required
  8. Attend relevant clusters, sub-clusters or working groups
  9. Support the drafting of practical guidance and concrete recommendations on cross-cutting issues for specific sectors and thematic areas
  10. Support the collection and use of data to inform programming
  11. At all possible opportunities (during relevant trainings, in staff and programme meetings, through newsletters, in email messages, etc) continually share key messages on cross cutting themes in close coordination with relevant specialists
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  13. Education, Experience and/or skills required

EDUCATION

  • School diploma with 5 years relevant experience in Adult Education, Training, Capacity Development or similar area

Or

  • University degree in the related area of study with at least three years of relevant professional experience in Adult Education, Training, Capacity Development or similar area

EXPERIENCE

  • Strong experience in designing, planning, and delivering capacity development sessions in a variety of settings.
  • Previous work on gender-related topics and/or disability inclusion
  • Previous work in media or communication would be an asset.
  • Experience working with civil society organizations.
  • Understanding of Accountability to Affected Populations, or experience in incorporating public opinion or preferences into public policy actions.
  • Understanding of Protection principles and prevention and risk mitigation measures in humanitarian action.
  • Previous experience with UN agencies is an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

SKILLS

  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant IASC guidelines, such as: Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action; Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings; Gender Handbook for Humanitarian Action; Strengthening Participation, Representation and Leadership of Local and National Actors in IASC Humanitarian Coordination Mechanisms.
  • Demonstrable skills in media, or marketing, or public communication.
  • Information management and analysis.
  • Ability to organize work, work independently and prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks, maintain attention to detail, and coordination with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of mainstreaming best practices and partnership models to ensure coordination of the same across a diversified range of actors; and,
  • Ability to work with and maintain strict confidentiality, when necessary.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles, minimum standards, and humanitarian coordination structure would be an asset

Languages

Fluency in English and Ukrainian (oral and written).

Working knowledge of Russian
